A delegation of Empower, the largest district cooling service provider in the region, will be attending the Winter Conference of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the 117-year old international organization which has more than 51,000 members. This year, the event will be held in Chicago, USA, from January 21 to 25, 2012.
Senior management team at Empower is scheduled to meet Ronald Jarnagin, the President of ASHRAE on the sidelines of the conference and discuss the latest updates in the District Cooling industry.
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower said: “District cooling industry in the UAE has matured in terms of technology, manpower and infrastructure. This year, the Empower team will be attending the conference on the back of increased capacity of cooling load delivered to its customers with more buildings, end-users and floor area.”
The Empower delegation, led by Ahmad Bin Shafar, includes Tariq Alyasi - Chief Operations & Maintenance Officer, Sultan Al Holy, Director-Operations & Maintenance, and Moustapha Assayed, Senior Engineering Manager.
Compared to other players in the industry globally, Empower’s growth in 2011 was substantial and challenging, according to Bin Shafar.
Empower has a long history of association with ASHRAE especially through the recent ASHRAE design manual for district cooling systems, which has been promoted by Empower.
ASHRAE has lauded Empower for initiating the idea of the design manual and providing the necessary impetus for the realization of the project.
Bin Shafar commented: "EMPOWER is proud to associate with international professional bodies such as ASHRAE, to ensure that best of the technology is brought to the region. Empower ensures that technology used in our projects as well as planning and execution is up to stringent measures to ensure high efficiency in our projects.”
ASHRAE fulfils its mission of advancing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education. This initiative has been supported by Empower which will be the only organisation in the world that will review the first District Cooling Design Manual drafted by the association.
“Empower has contributed significantly in setting the model for the industry in the region. We realised the need for setting standards for the district cooling industry in the region, and our association with ASHRAE is helping us in pursuing fool-proof technology developments.”
