Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (EMPOWER) has announced that it has signed a contract with International Media Production Zone (IMPZ) to supply 140,000 tons of district cooling over the next 25 years.
The agreement was signed by Hamad Huraiz, IMPZ’s Director of Operations and Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of EMPOWER at a signing ceremony held recently.
As part of the contract, EMPOWER will provide district cooling services to the entire IMPZ project spread across 50 million square feet of land including its pre-build production units, a Media Tower and various residential projects.
“IMPZ is a large and diverse project incorporating both business and residential complexes,” Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of EMPOWER. “EMPOWER is pleased to provide its economical power to the project to provide a clean and sustainable working and living environment for those operating in the zone.”
“The International Media Production Zone prides itself on being an eco-friendly industrial environment and will launch a host of recycling initiatives,” said Hamad Huraiz, IMPZ’s Director of Operations. “The environmentally friendly energy that EMPOWER provides will add a valuable resource to our community to guarantee reliable, clean and cost efficient power.”
This is the latest of several mega projects that have signed with EMPOWER for its unique centralised district cooling service which is considerably more cost efficient than air-cooled chiller systems. EMPOWER has so far signed contracts with Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai Health Care City, Dubai International Financial Centre and Business Bay to supply, including IMPZ, a total of 815,000 refrigerated tons over the next 25 years.
EMPOWER was formed in December, 2003 as a joint venture between the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
