The Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) and Jumeirah Beach residence (JBR) have signed an agreement under which Empower will build a district Cooling System (DCS) plant for the entire JBR development.
The JBR DCS plant with a total capacity of 60,000 tonnes will be the single largest district cooling plant in the region catering to a massive development of 36 high-rise residential towers comprising 6,500 housing units and four luxury hotel towers. The plant is expected to service a community of 25,000 people.
Empower is a joint venture between the Dubai technology and Media Free Zone and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
The agreement was signed by Hashim Al Dabal, chief executive officer of JBR and Ahmad Bin Shafar, chief executive officer of Empower at the water and Electricity Exhibition held at the Dubai World Trade center from February 1 to 3.
Al Dabal said: “The economies of scale offered by the DCS plant make it the ideal solution for our cooling requirements. JBR’s best practices in energy efficiency and high environmental standards will add considerable value to our total service offering for our tenants.”
