Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corp (Empower) yesterday signed a 25-year contract with Business Bay to supply 350,000 tonnes of cooling over the next quarter of a century.
The agreement was signed by Hashim Al Dabal, CEO of Dubai Properties, which manages the Business Bay project, and Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, at a ceremony held in Dubai Internet City. The agreement is the first of a number of contracts in the pipeline between Business Bay and Empower.
Eventually the district cooling giant will supply the entire Business Bay project, covering a massive 64 million square feet of land, supplying more than 350,000 tonnes of cooling over the next 25 years.
"Dubai Properties is a strong supporter of energy-efficient practices," said Al Dabal.
"Empower's cost-efficient, energy saving cooling solution will provide substantial savings to the residents of Business Bay and help keep Dubai a green city."
Empower's district cooling system will cool water at a central plant on Shaikh Zayed Road Dubai, Phase I, and distribute it through a network of piping systems to Business Bay's individual buildings.
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said, "As Dubai advances into a new phase of growth, Empower's cost and energy-efficient cooling services will be one of the key value-propositions enabling sustained growth. We are proud to supply such high profile projects with our services."
Empower was formed in 2003 as a joint venture between the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
