The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed in January 1992 by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electrical Company and Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years. Both organizations were established in 1959 as Government supported bodies with the objective of providing Dubai with an adequate and reliable source of electricity and water. Today DEWA is well known for its service efficiency and reliability that meets the growing demands of consumers.
