Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has launched an extensive maintenance and readiness initiative in preparation for the summer season and the anticipated rise in temperatures. The initiative spans Empower’s cooling plants and distribution networks across Dubai to enhance infrastructure efficiency and ensure all systems are fully prepared to meet the expected seasonal surge in demand. These efforts aim to provide a comfortable and stable indoor environment for Dubai’s residents and Empower’s clients across residential, commercial, hospitality, and other sectors.
His Excellency Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, stated; “We are fully aware of the escalating climate challenges, particularly the noticeable increase in temperatures in recent years. That’s why we continuously invest in strengthening our infrastructure and improving operational efficiency to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted cooling services.”
He noted that energy consumption during the summer doubles significantly, with air conditioning accounting for nearly 70% of energy used by buildings in the region. However, district cooling systems consume up to 50% less electricity compared to conventional cooling methods. Empower’s advanced technologies comply with international standards and align with the UAE’s sustainability agenda, including Dubai’s objective to reduce electricity and water consumption by 30% by 2030.
Bin Shafar confirmed that the seasonal preparations include comprehensive maintenance of cooling plants and distribution networks, in addition to upgrades and testing of smart monitoring systems that track performance and consumption in real time. These initiatives underscore Empower’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and its role in supporting Dubai’s climate action strategies, while enhancing quality of life during the peak summer heat.
He added that technical and engineering teams are working around the clock to ensure full system readiness, and emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering high-performance, energy efficient cooling solutions that reduce the emirate’s carbon footprint. Emergency and maintenance teams are also fully prepared to respond rapidly to any situation, reinforcing the company’s dedication to customer satisfaction and environmental stewardship.
Bin Shafar concluded by encouraging customers to adopt energy-efficient practices, such as setting air conditioning thermostat to 24°C and keeping doors and windows closed while cooling in use, in order to help lower monthly bills and protect the environment.
