Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, announced the completion of all operations for connecting the Dubai Maritime City's iconic tower 'ANWA', to the district cooling network from company’s Dubai Maritime district cooling plant with a total cooling capacity of 1,260 refrigeration tons (RT). ANWA, an architectural masterpiece developed by Omniyat Group, is the first and tallest tower in this important area, offers stunning views of the Arabian Gulf waters and comprises 44 floors, housing 229 luxurious apartments and multiple retail outlets.
The connection work of ANWA Tower to Empower’s district cooling network was kicked off on the eve of the signing of an agreement between Empower and Dubai Maritime City (DMC) in February to supply more than 43 buildings in the City with environmentally-friendly district cooling services, for a cooling capacity of more than 63,000 RT. Following the signing of the agreement, Empower made a total investment of AED 450 million to cater to the needs of DMC in two phases, through the establishment of two district cooling plants situated in the DMC. The towers being connected to the Empower district cooling network include Mar Casa by Deyaar, Vakson Tower and, most recently, the ANWA Tower by Omniyat, as well as many other mixed-use towers within Dubai Maritime Urban Plan.
On this occasion, H.E. Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: "The growing demand for Empower's services is mainly attributed to the increasing awareness among real estate developers of the economic and environmental benefits of district cooling, in terms of energy conservation, reduced maintenance and capital costs, as well as the effectiveness of district cooling in lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and providing world-class cooling solutions". Bin Shafar explained that the advantages of modern district cooling systems are not limited to driving environmental sustainability but also play a pivotal role in enabling companies to provide world-class services to their customers, and Empower is keen to perform its operational, production, distribution, and maintenance processes remotely in a highly controlled, sophisticated technical environment, so as to ensure upgrading of service levels and safety procedures.
